Why we exist
Across India, thousands of artisan families carry centuries of skill in their hands — block printers in Rajasthan, ikat weavers in Telangana, dhokra casters in Bastar, blue pottery artists in Jaipur. Yet their work often reaches the world through long chains that leave little value at the source. iKalpana was created to change that: a direct bridge between the maker and the mindful buyer.

Artisan spotlight
Rekha Devi
Madhubani painter, Bihar
"My mother taught me to paint the way she taught me to breathe — it was just part of being alive. Every line I draw carries her hand in it."
Rekha Devi has been painting Madhubani art for over 30 years in the Mithila region of Bihar. Her work draws on the Bharni style — bold outlines filled with vivid natural colours — depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, nature, and everyday village life. She works with a team of eight women from her village, each specialising in a different motif tradition.
